Meet Stephanie: The Family Travel Expert
Hi, I’m Stephanie, mom, former teacher, family traveler, and the creator behind Wander With Stephanie, where I share practical tips, honest experiences, and inspiration for traveling with kids.
Travel has always been a big part of my life. Before having children, my husband and I spent years exploring the world together. When we became parents to our daughter, Skyler, and later our son, Parker, we made a promise to ourselves that even though life would look different, we would continue traveling and intentionally make some of our children’s education happen through those experiences.

The Value of Travel as Education
We knew travel would never replace traditional learning, but we believed it could bring education to life in a way that textbooks sometimes cannot. We wanted our kids to experience history instead of only reading about it, hear different languages being spoken, try foods from different cultures, and develop curiosity about the world around them.
Since then, we have traveled to more than 30 countries as a family and have seen firsthand how meaningful those experiences can be for children. Whether we are admiring historic cities in Europe, exploring local markets in Mexico, or taking in the vast wonders of Antarctica, some of our best learning moments have happened unexpectedly. Standing in front of historic landmarks has sparked questions about history and culture. Watching wildlife in places like Antarctica has inspired endless questions about animals, science, and conservation.
How ILA Extends This Learning
As both a parent and former teacher, I have learned that children are often most engaged when learning feels connected to something meaningful in their own lives. Curiosity grows when children can relate what they are learning to something they have experienced themselves, and that is one of the reasons I love the approach at ILA.
An online ILA instructor can help extend learning beyond the experience itself. A family trip, local museum visit, or favorite book can become opportunities for deeper learning. If a student becomes fascinated by castles after visiting Europe, an instructor can help bring history to life through stories, research, and discussion. When students feel connected to what they are
learning, confidence grows, curiosity increases, and education often becomes more meaningful.
